Jungle Safari activities in Bardia National Park

WhatCan You Do In Bardia National Park? Rhino Lodge Bardia             People often choose to make a quick trip to Bardia National Park, only to discover that there is plenty to see and do while here. Bardia features a myriad of activities that are all related to the jungles of Western Nepal.             The area south of the Middle Hills (foothills of the Himalayas) is a relatively flat area. For centuries, the only people that could inhabit the land were the Tharu people, who have a natural immunity to malaria. This disease was eradicated over 60 years ago and since them other ethnic groups have moved in.             Bardia National Park retains the unique jungle lands. When you are here, you can choose from many different activities. Jeep safari tour or Jungle walk?

Image
Bardia National Park is a unique destination to see Bengal Tigers, Asiatic Elephants, One-horned Rhinoceros, Leopards, Crocodiles, Ganges River Dolphin and more than 400 species of birds. Rhino lodge Bardia has plenty of activities to offer our clients but the most iconic and popular ones are the jeep safari tour and the jungle walk. What's the difference between them? Jungle walks allow sightseers to move in silence and give a much greater chance of viewing animals due to the minimal noise/disturbance we cause. Now in the low season, the vegetation is in full bloom and allows you to connect with nature in all its wildness. A jungle walk in the Bardia National Park with one of our recent guests As well as walking silently, we will also wait and hide behind trees or bushes overlooking the river/watering holes where animals come to drink/refresh, to further increase our chances of viewing wild animals. Our expert guides can design walking tours from three

Mugger Crocodiles near our lodge

Image
The Marsh Mugger Crocodile ( Crocodylus palustris )  is a crocodile of medium to large size with the broadest snout of all the living members of the genus Crocodylus.  In the monsoon season, even though it's the low season in our Lodge and Bardia National Park, it's more than possible to see incredible creatures like this animal; we have expertised guides who are capable of showing you the area and finding the best spots in order to see animals in the wild. In the last few weeks we have seen this specimen  regularly,   close to our lodge and could enjoy and study its movements and behaviour in close proximity. They are more alligator-like than any other crocodile, especially in their rounded snout, as most crocodiles have a snout that is pointier. Like most crocodilians, muggers feature a flat head where their eyes, ears and nose are on top. This enables them to see, hear and breathe above water when their bodies are underwater. They have webbed feet but do not use them

Ganges River Dolphin

The  Ganges River Dolphin  ( Platanista gangetica ) The last week or two we have been having daily sightings of 1-2 dolphins in the river directly behind the Elephant Breeding Centre, just a 5 minute walk from our lodge. All you need to do is sit by the bank in silence and you will hear the sound of the animal breathing as it breaks the surface. With time and patience you will also see the head and long peak break the surface. So if you would like to see this species along with many other impressive animals come and join us and we will connect you with as many as possible!        The Dolphin viewpoint just a 5 min' walk from our lodge, where you can see Dolphins feeding right at your feet Here is some information about this rare and beautiful species: The Ganges River dolphin inhabits the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna and Karnaphuli-Sangu river systems of Nepal, India, and Bangladesh. This vast area has been altered by the construction of more than 50 dams and oth

The gestation period is 22 months, the longest of any living animal on the planet. They have over 600 muscles in heir trunk and can weigh up to 3 tonnes. The huge bull elephant is one of the most impressive sights to be seen in Bardia.  There are several distinguishing features which separate the Asiatic Elephant from, it's close relative, the African Elephant, and here we will list some of the more prominent differences. The African elephant is significantly larger, with bulls growing up to 4m tall. The biggest Asian males reach no more than 3.5m. Adult African elephants weigh between 4,000-7,500kg. Asian males weigh between 300
